Install Zorin Splash Screen Manager On Ubuntu 11.04 “Natty Narwhal”
Here is a short manual and video to install the Zorin Splash Screen Manager and how to change your plymouth theme on Ubuntu 11.04 “Natty Narwhal” (Alpha 3). This post is part of testing xvidcap (desktop recording application) and to see if the plymouth themes can be changed with the Zorin Splash Screen Manager.
To install the Zorin Splash Screen Manager you first need to download it from this page. When downloaded go to the folder where you saved the file (this should be your Downloads folder). Normally when you want to install a .deb file you can double click it and it will be installed using the Ubuntu Software Center. But when trying to install using the Ubuntu Software Center you will get an error message:
The package is of bad quality
The installation of a package which violates the quality standards isn’t allowed. This could cause serious problems on your computer. Please contact the person or organisation who provided this package file and include the details beneath.

Click on the OK button to close the message and close your Ubuntu Software Center, now go to Applications -> Accessories and select Terminal. In your Terminal window copy+paste the following line:
sudo dpkg -i Downloads/splashscreenmanager_1.2_i386.deb
Enter your password and the Splash Screen Manager will be insted. When installed you can find the Splash Screen Manager under System -> Administration -> Splash Screen Manager.
To download new plymouth themes go to this page. When you want to install a new plymouth theme start the Splash Screen Manager and and click on the Install button and go to the folder where you saved the downloaded file, select the theme and click on the Open button. When the plymouth theme is installed click on the Change Default Theme and select the plymouth you want to use and click on the Open button followed by clicking on OK and wait until the plymouth theme is set as default.
