How To Install Wine 1.6 On Ubuntu 13.10

Here is a guide to install Wine 1.6 on Ubuntu 13.10. You can install Wine using the Wine Team PPA.

Wine (originally an acronym for “Wine Is Not an Emulator”) is a compatibility layer capable of running Windows applications on several POSIX-compliant operating systems, such as Linux, Mac OSX, & BSD. Instead of simulating internal Windows logic like a virtual machine or emulator, Wine translates Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly, eliminating the performance and memory penalties of other methods and allowing you to cleanly integrate Windows applications into your desktop. To add the PPA and to install Wine open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa -y

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wine1.6 -y

When Wine is installed you can close the terminal window.
