Install Grub Customizer On Ubuntu 11.04 “Natty Narwhal”
Grub Customizer allows the user to add, remove, freeze, rename and reorder boot menu items. It will also allow changes to the Grub 2 configuration settings such as background image and menu timeout. For long-time users familiar with StartUp-Manager, this application performs many of the same capabilities with additional options.

To install Grub Customizer open a terminal window (press Alt+F2 and type: gnome-terminal) and copy+paste the following lines:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install grub-customizer
To start Grub Customizer click on the Applications launcher in the left panel and type: grub-customizer

I installed this, but I don’t see any changes at all, I follow the video instructions and I still get the boring simple stuff that came with natty.
This is an application to make some small changes to your grub loader, the screen where you can select which os to start when having a dual boot system (windows and ubuntu). It allows you to remove kernels from the grub loader and if you click on the preferences button you can make some small changes to how your grub looks. You can change the background and text/menu colors. If you want to change the plymouth screen (the purple screen with the white ubuntu logo) you can try installing zorin splashscreen manager. It’s funny you mention the purple screen with the white ubuntu logo as I have never seen this screen while booting. Now I have noticed that if I shut down for the night, when I come back in the morning my screen where the kernels appear is purple background and the text is smaller, looks neat and clean. However, any other time if I reboot or shut down and turn on again it’s a black screen with white letters showing me the kernels. This screen is much rougher than the purple one. This one has bigger letters aswell. The one screen that bothers me the most I guess is the black screen with the cursor blinking on the top left hand side. “boooooring” I am pretty new on ubuntu I love the things you can do, I have spent a lot of time away from windows lately. It’s just a few things that don’t seem to work as easy as they should be I guess. No DVD playback either, tried your ways posted here, still nothing. weird I guess.

check, check and check, I have all these I’m able to play mp3 and any type of audio format, not DVD’s though before anyone has a smart remark, yes I have a DVD player. I even did the whole region thing still nothing. I would like to be able to play dvds since my kids love watching movies usually at the time I’m watching the news or a movie.

Hey tinuz I chat with martijn for a while yesterday, the dude knows his s—- i hope to be as good as him one day, nah better (quoting billy the kid when talking about pat garret, young guns). I seem to have problems with permissions I got cdrom0 permissions under my username, but the minute I insert the DVD it switches to root thus won’t play, error I have no permission to open file. we solve one problem which was mounting to the drive now it’s just that we tried a few things,but martijn said he tried the one’s he knew of the top of his head and didn’t work so he’ll look into it. I love Linux the sky is the limit and even though I didn’t get my problem fix, it is such a learning experience unlike windows.
