Install Cherokee Web Server On Ubuntu 11.04 “Natty Narwhal”

Cherokee is a very fast, flexible and easy to configure Web Server. It supports the widespread technologies nowadays: FastCGI, SCGI, PHP, CGI, uWSGI, SSI, TLS and SSL encrypted connections, Virtual hosts, Authentication, on the fly encoding, Load Balancing, Apache compatible log files, Data Base Balancing, Reverse HTTP Proxy, Traffic Shaper, Video Streaming and much more.




To install Cherokee open a terminal window (press Alt+F2 and type: gnome-terminal) and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cherokee-webserver/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cherokee

To start Cherokee open a terminal window and type:

sudo cherokee-admin

Open the web interface url (http://127.0.0.1:9090) in your web browser and use the user name and one time provided password to login.
